What is a Worm Farm Starter Colony?

32 oz of adult compost worms, juveniles, cocoons and supercharged bedding straight from our breeder bins.

The Worms - We breed mostly Red Wigglers (Eisenia Fetida), but you might find the occasional Indian Blue or Red Worm. The rare addition of these other breeds is usually not an issue for the everyday composter and worm farmer, but if you're looking for pure worm colonies, shoot us a note after ordering and we can ensure a pure colony.

The Bedding - Our bedding is likely our secret sauce! The base of our bedding is bokashi fermented fruit and vegetable pulp using cultivated LAB and local yeasts, coffee grounds, coffee chaff, and shredded cardboard. We marry the ingredients in this recipe and let the beneficials (bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, protozoa, nematodes) do their thing and turn the mixture into a bedding that worms love.

The Mineral Buffer & Additives - We further improve the environment of the worms and mineral composition of the resulting castings by adding Oyster Shell Flour, Azomite and Basalt Rock Dust. This premium blend provides essential digestive grit for the worms, naturally balances the bin's pH, and supercharges your final castings with over 70 trace minerals to support your plants growth.
